The Origin of Bu

So in essence, I kind of imagined Busiris was a curse. Egyptian in nature, mostly because of the name I chose, which I used as my user name online and migrated it over to him. There is always a common theme with Egypt. Always curses! And often they surround an object. So Bu is a curse embedded into an object. Whoever takes the object becomes cursed until death to become Dragon-Bu upon nightfall.

Of course Bu looks this way because that is how I designed him. Technically I suppose I tried to use some of my OWN physical features in him, though not even close to accurate anymore. XD But he looks the way he does now because it’s based off of the human he cursed himself onto. So he dies, Bu disappears until another person takes the object again! Then he (or she if a female takes the object!) would look different. I am always basing the stories and art on his current form though. But you never know what I could be in the mood for later?

Confused? Yay! Me too. It’s a work in progress. And it’s very far-fetched. But I don’t think that bothers me too much. It’s just a story, and heck, I’m not Tolkien or anything. lol Basically he is just a spirit that curses the person that takes the object he was attached to. Bu, I always imagined him to be a fighter character, which explains his pants and belt and buffness too. He soon started to be a goofball as well. I then decided that with the curse he also taps into the subconscious and feeds off of it. What that means is that he loves to do things that everyone wants to do, but he doesn’t hold back. Causing damage to things, partying, sex, food, fun, etc. He does it all because people wanna do it all! The difference is that we, as humans, know better not to do it.

All of that taps into my favorite things. Transformation, muscle growth, also a bit of a temporary mind altering in a trans-formative sense. That last one can cause embarrassment and comedy for the human Bu controls. He’ll wake up at day break likely naked somewhere 100 miles away. Poor guy! lol Its all in good fun. I also try to explain his athletic build in 2007/2008 and why he became megabuff in 2008 and beyond. XD I kinda imagined his form mutates and grows considerably stronger with age. Sorta weak, but hey! Work in progress. I’ll get there. XD

The Origin of Bu Part II

I actually forgot to mention something last time, actually. Somebody happened to remind me by agreeing with me! I noticed AFTER creating Dragon-Bu, but found that it’s more if an inspiration. This whole big curse and his lack of control when he changes is A LOT like The Mask though like a lot of mainstream society, I am more familiar with the wackier and less dark Jim Carrey movie version from 1994! I suppose that’s just something I like. Some meek or shy character who doesn’t do much, forced to change in a supernatural way. It’s fun! Has lots of good subtext on being an outgoing person, and leaves LOTS of room for humor and fun. Yeah so, instead of a mask that changes you, it’s an ancient object that leaves a mark on the possessor of that object. And he becomes a wild half-dragon monster, sorta!

So in continuation with the origin post in January, the human (whom still remains without much of a name, mostly because of a lack of focus on his human form) visits Egypt. On some tours around some ancient pyramids on his last day on vacation, he gets lost from the crowd and stumbles upon a weakened spot along the flooring. It’s dark of course and he stumbles into a hole created from the weak floor. At this moment in the origin story, I still haven’t come up with a cursed object yet. At this moment, I imagine it as a bright and vivid green gemstone, but that’s subject to change. :3

The only light illuminating in this cold dark hidden room is some green light emitted from a spot semi buried in the sand. The object is beautiful! And of course it emits that green light, so he takes it for the sake of it providing enough light to escape this hidden chamber. Once he is out of the chamber, he sighs with relief. That could have ended VERY badly. Though the object is quite chilling, being so glowy without any light to reflect off of it, he pockets it, unknowingly taking an object that will change his life, and ruin his nightlife to boot.

It isn’t until the object left the it’s resting place and entered the sunlight of the Egyptian day that he starts to feel an odd sensation in his skin, like some change has been made and that worried him. This human didn’t believe in curses though, so he shrugged it off and left that country, returned home with this theft-ed object. It was only a matter of hours until he hit his first hint of nightfall after getting that object.

The Origin of Bu Part III

I’ve yet to really fine tune all of the details about Bu. Heck, I probably should re-read the other two before I make part IV, because then we will dive deeper into the little details. However, lets not get ahead of ourselves, on to Bu’s first transformation!

This really works exactly like any other werewolf story, really, but it’s always the best part of a werewolf movie, the transformation! It’s his human form’s first night after getting cursed. The sun finally sets, and the change begins. His vision becomes blurry, mind starts to numb over, and pain crawls all over him. He doesn’t know what’s going on! On the outside his skin starts becoming tough and also changing pigment to a shade of olive green slowly. He starts to harden up with muscle mass. The body starts to grow, tearing at his clothes all over. The shirt tears off completely when extra limbs pop up on his backside, they are dragon wings! His pants tear off when a large thick tail starts poking out, leaving him nudey.

The last details start to form, his hair becomes super-light and slicks back, eyes turn green, muscle mass settles, and then Dragon-Bu awakens! Yay! His attitude is that of what you always expect of Bu. Fresh from a long sleep away from a human body to reside in, he quickly takes his bare ass out to the nightlife to party or maybe even start a street brawl, as he loves both the freedom of the nightlife, and the testosterone and adrenaline rush that comes with a fight. In this era, he finds the safest way to go about the world would be to cover his goods, so he finds some dingy Gi pants in the trash out in the city. Though it should be noted that nudity is one thing, being a green monster with wings and a tail around humans? A whole other situation.

Chaos ensues! People run in fear! He destroys things in a drunken stupor. All that kinda stuff. Just Bu living off of the rush of sin and vice! And then after many hours with that, the sun starts to pop back up. Human Bu wakes up from a long sleep. Naked of course. He’ll probably grow used to that. Sometimes he’ll end up waking up in bed with totally random people of either gender. >3>!! That, for me, is the main humor I get out of this whole idea. Dragon-Bu will make life totally rough for his human form.

The rest is history! Bu continues living in the night, while his human form tries to maintain normalcy in the day! If I can nab down small details, maybe I can write up some fun scenarios with the Bu problem he has. XD Lets not forget the many friends Bu meets in his nighttime adventures. He has many, and all of them are the wonderful creations of awesome artists.

The Origin of Bu Part IV

We will take a very large step back today. Now that we’ve seen what the modern Bu has turned out to become, we should see more of the prehistory of his existence. I’ve had it in my mind, as told in previous parts of this story, that Bu has been around for probably a millennium or two. Dating back to Ancient Egyptian times, as the cursed artifact that makes someone become Bu is found there.

This also brings the idea I had that since I am taking the character in that direction, that there could be many many characters like Bu. My Busiris is my design, in a story arch where a specific character becomes him. That’s who you see! But in theory, more Dragon-Bu characters could be made, like in a universal story. I also had an idea where the character loses the curse in a freak accident and everyone who comes into contact with him permanently becomes like Dragon-Bu (no changing back at dawn) until he fixes the problem. Exciting idea, I’d say. But now I’m going off course with the origin story!

So back in ancient days there was a long lost village in Egypt that was cursed by Osiris (though I suppose I would take extreme newbish liberties with the gods if I dived deeper into that) to become dragon-like at night, wrecking chaos and excitement and sex wherever their subconscious form took them. After the people were wiped out by such havok, all was left was the mysterious gem that cursed them, left by the god. At any time someone took ownership of the gem, they’d be forever cursed to change at night. Of course, like stated before, the changes totally depend on who you are. In most people it creates a personality that just parties and does things you’d want to do, but are afraid to. Very Freudian stuff to say the least.

It’s easy to say that Bu is a character that seems very sociopathic! He tries to be a likable and very attractive chatacter, and everyone that becomes cursed has that same trait, which makes it quite easy for them to be the popular and chaotic rebel with quite the sex drive, doing things that would make their human form embarrassed and make your momma blush!

It’s also quite easy to see now how it’s both a blessing and a curse. More of a curse for them, and a blessing for everyone else! When cursed, you can’t control it, just imagine it like a werewolf, just with less killing. Almost sounds fun except from your perspective, you black out and wake up the next morning. Where are you? You could be anywhere from in bed with multiple peoples or just in some cornfield, butt naked. That won’t end well, AND you missed all the fun.

Well of course in the story, the people who were the first to be cursed are gone, but the curse itself, remains.

The Origin of Bu Part V

We start today with a basic summary of the whole story as of now.

Ancient Egypt, there rests an artifact of the gods, themselves. This object curses the possessor of it to become a monster come nightfall. The curse will stick with them until they eventually die. It goes through thousands of years passing from person to person, or even multiple people at a time. These cursed people more often become half-dragon, half human, and in this form, live off their subconscious thoughts and desires. If you wanted to do it but you know best not to do it, you’ll do it when you transform, and more. Who knows how this curse effected history in this ancient land? Eventually it becomes lost. Likely so the curse can finally cease it’s playful attacks on people’s subconsciousness. The effects that it’d continue to have would possibly lead to the downfall of peaceful society.

Present day USA! The currently unnamed hero has just returned from a long desired vacation in Cairo, Egypt. It was so much fun! While on the last day there, in a rush to check out some pyramid excavations, finds a mysterious old artifact, glowing a bright green. Now night has begun to fall just as he finished unpacking. The transformation begins! He becomes buff, green, and dragony as you know him so well. He prowls the night in this new form and personality, as Dragon-Bu! Seeking fun and free love and vice! The hero wakes up the next morning. Likely naked and in many an awkward place, maybe with other people around. Oh the drama.

Bu would go on meet new friends at nightfall, characters often from other lands and universes. His most notable friend, would of course be Narugi!

The Origin of Bu Part VI

In more current times, Dragon-Bu has been seen hanging out with a fun and ragtag group of friends! The known characters currently would be Shin (owned by Crimsonblood), Jak (owned by MTCopyright), Randy (owned by PearlPhoenix) and of course Bu’s best friend Narugi (owned by Neekko). Those are the main players, often shown in the everyday art of Bu. While many of these characters have their own universes, they have also somewhat squeezed their way into Bu’s own alternate universe where anything could happen!

In this Buniverse Bu, and as a result, his human form, lives with Nar as the most basic form of an odd couple where Bu messes with Nar after work and Bu gets beat up on multiple occasions. It all started on fairly simple circumstances. Narugi met Bu in the back of a bar, while Bu was drunk and looking for a good brawl. None of that really went well. Bu can drink and Bu can fight. But put them together and you’re only asking for an epic fail. For circumstances that only Narugi truly knows, he gathered up enough sympathy to drag Bu’s unconscious body back to his apartment.

It wasn’t until the next morning that Narugi learned of the were-person situation. This created an interesting situation for Nar, indeed. He wasn’t actually going to show any desire for Bu to stay any longer than he could. Shortly thereafter, Bu had stated how his dragon-form had destroyed his last home and was hoping to possibly stay with this buff, apathetic, and scary man. seven hundred dollars of monthly rent (not including utilities) later, they had themselves a deal! It’s only sad for Bu that he never thought to look up the fact that Nar only pays about four hundred and fifty dollars for the rent of his actually quite dingy two-bedroom apartment.

And like the first episode of a cheesy animated program, the rest is history! Bu and Nar have had and continue to have many adventures. From spending Christmas with Jak, to going to Japan to play old school Human Tetris, you can’t even predict what would happen next with this dynamic and strange duo.

(to be continued – ???)
